Growing Old Gracefully pt.6

Growing Old Gracefully is back! Yes, indeed, GOG will show you how our bags age so that you know what to expect when you buy one (or more!) of these beautiful leather goods. In this part of GOG we bring to you the camel 13” Laptop Case, the Peggy and the new Percy in camel and mink – all have been used by Mimi herself.

The 13” Laptop Case in camel has been used for about 9 months and has softened considerably with time, compared to the brand new case pictured below. The leather has taken on a lovely colour and you can expect the leather on your case to change gradually too, but rest assured it will look beautiful and this is meant to happen! The more you use the case the more character it gains (as with all our pieces)!

The Peggy in camel has been a part of Mimi’s life for over a year now and is still going strong. The leather starts changing almost immediately and will continue get even darker. You can also expect your bags to get more shiny with time. GORGEOUS!

Her Percy bag has been doing the rounds for 4 months, and is already catching up with Peggy. She uses this every weekend while outside, so it’s getting lots of daylight (even winter daylight can have the same effect as sunlight). As the camel changes colour, the straps also darken. The effect won’t be as drastic, but they do become a bit darker and a whole lot more shiny.

The mink Percy will not undergo such a drastic change in colour as the camel, but it will get considerably darker and a tad bit shinier with time. The photo has made it look a bit more brown than it is a real life, but its still a greyish brown in the flesh, and now comes with a patina like finish.

We love to hear back from our customers and read your bag stories, and would love to see how your bags have aged. So please email us your pictures and tell us your stories. x

We have another aged bag to share with you and this time it’s the Ada in yellow.

The Ada on the top is an unused version while the one on the bottom was used by our shop manager Julia for around one month. You can see that the yellow leather starts changing quite quickly. Julia used it every day for that month and was quite hard on this Ada bag, using it in harsh rain and out dog walking (which it’s perfect for!) for example.

In the first month you will notice the most stains and marks and as it ages further these will fade. The yellow will change to a deeper nutty colouring over time as well as gaining a slight shine to the surface of the leather.

This lovely Peggy in Dark Tan (on the left) was brought in by our customer Emma and she has been using it for around 18 months now and isn’t it gorgeous? The Peggy on the right is how it started off life and you can see it just gets better with age!

If you would like to share your aged Mimi products, please email Julia at: julia@mimiberry.co.uk and we might feature it here on our blog.

So far we have shown you the aged Peggy in Tan and Green, and now for something completely different. This is the Dai satchel which is Elsie’s big sister. The hard leather in yellow is particularly beautiful as it oxidises and turns a lovely nutty colour. So if you are afraid that the yellow is a tad too bright for you, never fear it will age gracefully like all the hard leathers in our collection.

If you would like to order a Dai Satchel they are £300 and take around 4 weeks to be made. They can be made in an array of colours from the hard leather collection, such as yellow, green, tan, dark brown, red, and black. It’s measurments are H:25cm x L:40cm x W11cm
As an added bonus, if you order the Dai satchel we can emboss it with a name of your choice.

Continuing with the Peggy Bag, we have another tried and tested colour to show you. This Peggy version is in the tan leather which is owned by our office manager Camilla and she wore it everyday for 10 months. The tan changes the most dramatically out of all the hard leathers, but into a lovely chestnut brown which is why we believe it’s the most popular colour choice.

FRONT: The Peggy on the Left is 10 months old and the Peggy on the Right is new.
